The little shohin is my very first ficus and was my first truck chop (it was 3 feet tall). From there I fell In love and got the 2 variegated ones and started work. I've had them all for about a year now and they've made wonderful progress any comments are nice and I'd like to see others.

I have a couple.
Nothing special. The biggest one.
Half cooperating.

This was over a rock and ugle so I cut it off and threw it in the catch all.
This is me practicing Chinese.
It has branches on the outsides.
And that orange. I ain't thrown orange seed in here for 3 years!

This thread should be way more interesting......

Here is my best one.

Thanks to BWayne for making me wire it at BSG.
And BVF for encouragement, it likes the fish!

I think other ficus species are used for bonsai more than benjamina.

I have 2 tiger barks and a willow leaf.

I do realize their not used a lot but they are my favorite personally though I also have about 6 other species benjamina has always been my favorite

I was kinda excited to see a bunch of ficus by now bit I do like your s a lot

May be because you restricted the thread to Benjamina...
I get one and get back to ya ;)

May I ask why? They grow well, but are sporadic when it comes to chop backs. Their leaves don't reduce all that well, and ramification is poor.

In the 8 months I've owned those variegated the leaves have reduced 75 percent (I know this because I have cuttings growing out) and ramification has probably quadrupled or more considering I thin them regulary. Also when pruned they are never sporadic when budding idk if I'm some benjamina genius but mine never drop leaves and are easily directional pruned

I really think, almost know, that the type of Ben makes all the difference.

Again, I have 3 different ones, and they all react/grow different.

Many of the best ficus bonsai I have seen have been Benjamina from S.e. Asia.

Yes, location is also critical. You shouldn't expect to get the same results indoors.

Very true I have a greenhouse so it has a nice bright winter and then it moves to the bench when it's warm enough, so I guess considering most people's growing conditions they may not do well.

not really if you have the setup- I grow mine indoors in winter and they do rather well

But even still, they won't perform as well as they do in the tropics, and not everyone grows the way you do.
