Welcome to Crazy!

Probably need more information.

For instance...

Was this ordered from a Northern Michigan nursery, and is being kept at your place in Vegas?

Probably too soon to shipping, pruning, etc...
To call it certainly.

Give 'em time to respond. The Hinoki people will find this thread. Can't expect an answer in two hours.

It could be a few things, starting with stress from being transported. It could also be change in sunlight. Hinoki's are very sensitive to having their light conditions changed. It could also be fungal.

My advice, spray with an antifungal, like daconil, and put it in a bright location but out of direct midday sun. Avoid wetting the foliage when watering for a couple of weeks. Cypress are slow growers, so it may be hard to discern when the plant has recovered. Be patient and don't mess with it too much.

What Stan says here:

I have a much smaller one that I let get overgrown and trimmed to thin it out. I repotted it and moved it to even more sun then it was getting. When I did all that I noticed green alga on the lower portion of the trunk and gently removed it and gave it a quick sulfur treatment. Some of the tips are now brown which indicates a fungal problem(to me) and I mixed up a fresh batch of Daconil - Inexpensive if you get concentrated and work on a LOT of plants, even your veggies...

Could be an array of things.

I've lost a few.

I've found they don't like frost or cold winds. They bronze and lose limbs. I put them underneath a bench when the frosts come.

They need to be thinned out regularly. If you don't the weak die. I wonder if you are seeing this? The branches left were steady dying and you were too late thinking?

These things love magnesium too. Epsom salts give them nice colour.

One thing about the Hinoki that makes them difficult is that the foliage attachment is very weak and pieces will break off at the slightest touch. Quite often you will break some whenever you do work on them and they will brown out and die. Makes them hard to wire and you must be extra careful when handling the branches.
