Mike,
this is shore fishing - chuckle - usually at high tide [ low tide is San Drum - Melwish ] and I use a 4lb line on a collapseable 6' rod.
They will fight, can pop the line if at full size, but most of the tide it is the out going wave that does the fighting - chuckle.
Water around Trinidad can be very, very shallow for say 400 ', low tide up to your knees, and the sand is brown.
Now Permit [ zelwon ] that is another situation.
Sorce,
that is for the big guys and their boats. The most I might get in the river is a 2' Tarpoon. which will dance especially around twilight, before he lets go of the hook. Or you can have Mangrove snapper, Snook and the ocassional 200 lb thingee going up the river that stretches out your like and then snaps it.
Really big catfish and large crabs,
Take care you guys.
Good Day
