So I bought this bonsai from Amazon 2 months ago and I'm starting to see new growth, I'm not sure what to do with it, do I let it grow for ramification or do I need to prune, the previous pruning was really sloppy, leaving half cut branches and half cut leaves. And tip would be great. I also going to repot soon since temperatures are starting to stay above freezing and I'm seeing new growth. Any tips would help! Thanks!

P.s. I'm new to bonsai but I have been reading a lot about it. This chinese elm lives outside in my miniature green house, I brought it in tonight because it was going to get pretty cold tonight. (North texas)

Welcome to Crazy!

That's pretty dope.

But it looks like the interior may be kinda effed. No worries, they all tend to be, especially when carelessly pruned like it was.

I would probably wait a month or so, and naked it so we can see the whole interior, to help you pick one, maybe two trunk extensions that would compliment the exposed roots.

"Trunk extension" being, maybe a half inch nub directly after the roots.

It'll grow back.

Worth focusing smart, and slow effort on.

Not that you should report soon....

Just note...

Take more fine roots off the fat root so the littler ones catch up in size.
Definitely don't leave more roots on the fat one.
