It's already 2024 somewhere in the world, so happy New Year, everyone!

I recently saw something where, in stead of New Year's resolution as a set goal, it was suggested to set New years theme. Like replacing "I'm going to workout every week/lose weight/replace burgers with salads" with "I'm going to be healthier this year." So you might not workout, or lose weight, but over the year your sick days from work got cut in half and your diabetes is under control, so totally nailed it.

Share your personal bonsai theme for the year!
If you are challenging yourself with a very specific goal or resolution, that's cool too.

I will have something that actually IS bonsai by the end of the year. Been sitting on material, tinkering here and there, learning but rarely doing. Always putting me trees on the back burner when life takes a turn, like I do with so many other things.
This year my theme is, "Take The Leap." My trees are coming with me.

Happy New Year.
Goals for 2024 is to continue to challenge myself and push myself even further both in technical skill and material composition. Whether it’s naturalistic or traditional my goal is to build upon everything so far to craft better bonsai for future. On a personal level …find a home continue to focus on family, my dog and my friends , career , and handle my hypochondria / anxiety better.

My goals are to 1) do something for my trees EVERY DAY, even if it's only to stare at a tree for 1/2 hour (minimum) in order to better understand/conceive of a design for that tree; 2) wire those trees out!!! get some wire on everything that needs definition. (I hate wiring...can't you tell?)

I really need to get my trees settled in their winter accommodations, buy El Nino has given me some exceptionally warm weather up till now. Happy New Year everyone.

The first couple years I collected as many trees as I could. Last year I slowed myself down on collecting. I didn't repot anything and let almost everything grow out to settle and establish themselves into their new environment. This year I need to go through all my trees and decide what I think is worth my time and effort developing. After that, start making meaningful choices about the direction I want to take those remaining trees.

Then there is balancing act of family, work and other hobbies like riding my bike thousands of miles all over Alaska. It's going to be a busy year.
