I've got a couple of oak trees collected from my yard. Both will be ready for repot next season.

This first one is a water oak. Collected Feb. 2019. It was left tall to take advantage of the high curve in the trunk. It grew a branch from the base that I decided to nurture as a second trunk. Should be ready to cut the leader back soon.

Here's a Georgia Oak, at least that's the closest it's been identified. Collected in Dec 2017. The initial taperless section was further reduced in early 2021. These back bud wonderfully. I haven't decided if I'll keep any lower branches yet.

Amazing their survival:oops:. First one looks like hybrid Q. nigra x ?. Second much like personal Q. georgiana. Good start so far.

These has a decent season after a little fungal battle, I'll have to be a little more proactive next year with the fungicide. It's been really dry here for a few weeks now. 20221007_182452.jpg20221007_182357.jpg

you make me want to try an oak bonsai again, but the acorn suppliers here don't have evergreens, and i want something suited for shohin size

Fungicide.... suggest to use dormant spray after leaves fall and again shortly before Spring growth begins. Fungus often hides in dormant buds and when leaves open then manifests self. Nip in the bud as the saying goes;).

Collected this tree about 6 weeks ago, fingers crossed it survives 🤞🏼

What kind of oak? Were leaves dried up before digging? Please add location to profile;).
It’s an English oak Quercus robur, it was already changing autumn colours yea leaves are quite dry but we’ve had a naughty hot summer with hardly any rain, I’m in uk on the southeast coast near Colchester Essex, the ground was proper clay as well so guess it’s been struggling this year… I read Harry Harrington’s post about collecting in autumn so had to give it a go now
