Hi all, although I’m not completely new to bonsais, I still consider myself a beginner. About a year ago I moved to a ranch house in Northern California with 1.5 acres of trees (natives and exotics), so I have some hands-on experience with big trees but my bonsai collection is still small. I’m familiar with Niwaki and currently I’m designing my own Japanese garden. I can take care of all my trees (proper location, watering and fertilisation), but I’m not confident doing anything more advanced with my bonsai trees. I have many pre-bonsais but only a couple of fully developed trees, this is a picture of a prune mume I’ve recently purchased from a wonderful bonsai nursery near home. Could you please give me some feedback on refining this tree? Any suggestion, bibliography, or video is appreciated since I haven’t found a lot of online resources about this particular tree. Thank you all for reading this post!885E9253-B135-44B8-BE98-0602E3F6C8D9.JPG94159F8A-C339-4139-9115-EE3F5EFFD4E7.JPGCD39341D-82C9-4CA1-A882-5C655EA40686.JPG

Welcome neighbor. Northern California is a big place with lots of microclimates. Care to be a bit more specific on location?

Welcome neighbor! Our area has a great bonsai community. Please visit us at American Bonsai Assoc. of Sacramento and Sacramento Bonsai Club once Covid allows. Nice Ume by the way.
