Got a few of these little guys and would love to hear or see what you guys would do them.

I was thinking to keep them together, idk.....

I'd put them in a corner of the house and let them alone. They don't make very good bonsai.

Agreed, definitely wasn't going to bonsai them but was thinking maybe plant them sideways?

You could create some interesting shapes just turning them back and forth ...
Even upside down!

Fun!

I though you were talking about the big green corn ones...

I got one of these...
The Sorceress loves it!

yea my lady wanted them, I like the colors too

Have to make sure they look good for the future burn pile......forward thinking here.

Can't burn em of she likes em!

I been tempted to wire mine but I left it in a cold spot early winter and it's a little weak....

In a pot with no drainage.

I see you really love pushing them to the limits. hahah. that is good though I think. I like an old tree that has been through hell and back and still has a little green

I'm going to repot them later today when I have a chance and I'll post what I come up with

Remember those grow as tall as the broadleaf green one's. We have one we cut from 9 foot to 6 foot and then way down like 6 - 8 inches. It has been 6 months or so and it is 2 foot tall already. We also have a Madagascar like yours over 6 foot that is getting the same treatment for the next two years. They just tend to look crappy when let to grow tall - well at least to us.

Edit: If you do let them grow out put them in heavy terracotta pots and wire them in - the wind will toss them all over your yard in the Summer if you don't. Inside it helps as well because they do best in loose soil.

@GrimLore Thank you for the tips! I have regular potting soil and some small lava and pumice mixed in to pot it with. I don't have my usual bonsai mix.

Should that soil be ok for it?

I wouldn't waste the lava and pumice.

Hell ya, could make it less expensive and just as good with potting soil and fine/small pine bark mulch - no need for the lava or pumice really. The mix is light and yours will be too. Those will grow in most anything that allows rapid fine root growth and usually are in mulch for the most part when purchased.

Just for example here is the green corn type that used to be 9 foot, three plants cut down to almost the base -

And the 6 foot Madagascar which is getting the same treatment once outside -

They grow like weeds, don't love them to much :P

I have one of the green corn ones that's about 6 ft tall. When you chopped it did you try and plant the part you cut off?

No, but I have been told by mass growers they do root nicely. In the South they pretty much loosen up a row of soil and stick the cuttings in. Here to duplicate the process would require doing the same potted and protected while kept warm. Little to much work with little benefit at my age  As is those two even after knocking the tall one down take up enough room and my Wife is happy with just two or is saying so to keep me happy:p

Well here is what I have done

No it could be interesting or more interesting in a year but myself I would take the larger and pot separate straight up and plant he other tree together closely. Then when the three take and grow separate then with any wood material and strap them together above the separator giving them a little wiggle. Rinse and repeat until eventual cutback.

I see these at the big box store, braided.
Go buy a ficus to play with.
