Getting after this Juniperus chinensis 'Trautman'

Made one last trip to Gertens’s nursery today.
After scouring the rows of clearance plants, I came across this solo Trautman juniper. I thought it was a steal for 20$.

Narrow spire like growth habit. We will see how it wires up.
I started by removing just the debris and dead material.

From there decided on a front. With some movement left to right, I’m thinking windswept.
Adding some wire and branch selection.
Jinning the top, with a new leader wired up.


This morning, I put a couple more wires on and decided I’ve done enough for now.

Hopefully I didn’t do too much. A very fun Friday evening activity.

Any thought on how to improve this design are very welcome.

Put it outside the greenhouse in the southern sun. I shouldn’t be tempted to anything more this year.

Recommendations:
(1) Eliminate the bottom branch. Leave short jin.
(2) Remove surface soil to expose nebari so you can see what you are working with. Don't style the tree before you know what the roots look like - you may be styling the wrong front.

Otherwise... update needed!
