General advice on ramification and shaping

Picked up this Trident Maple, i've only ever had Chinese Elm's so im a bit unsure on the ramification and shaping, is it virtually the same? Any tips / tricks that work? It's around 50cm from the pot

Main difference is that chinese elm have alternating leaves (And therefor budding) and maples have opposing leaves (and thus branching). Here you have to ensure you keep to bifurbication, as trifurbication will -over time- get you swollen knuckles on your branches. Also, tridents are better at closing cutwounds.
