I have a Fukien tea tree that I potted a week ago. It was doing fine the first few days but now is not so happy. I’ve lost a few leaves and now I’m seeing black spots on some of the leaves.
It was in pretty good shape when I first brought it home and even had a few flowers
Admittedly I believe I removed too much of the rootball- not intentionally.
I just hope I haven’t damaged it beyond repair.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It will probably lose all its leaves and pout, if not die. Give it the best light you can, don't let it get dry, but don't over water, either. Do not treat it like it's dead, or it will be. In May or when it is 50° overnight put it outside in half day sun, preferably east sun and water every day it doesn't rain. Do major work on tropicals when they are growing vigorously, like June.

Okay that makes sense. So I guess you don't think it's black spot disease? Should I avoid misting?

One of the characteristics of FT is when the leaves die they turn black. Another is these black leaves stay on the plant until you pick them off. If misting makes you feel good, do it. The percentage of time that the misting actually changes the atmosphere around the plant is insignificant. What the tree needs is water, light, and time to recover from your ill-timed heart, lung, liver and stomach surgery. Cross your fingers.
