I’m new to bonsais, I bought this fukien tea about 2,5 months ago. At first I noticed some tiny insects roaming around in the soil and did not think much of it. Now some of the leaves are starting to show darker spots and more leaves are starting to fall. I don’t know if this has anything to do with the insects or just the fact that they are vulnerable to changes…
I can’t get a good picture of these insects but I do have pictures of the dark spots. Here are some before and after pictures.

Probably both. They are pest magnets and vulnerable to change. I don't like to use pesticide but it is one of the only trees I use a systemic on. I use Bayer Advanced granules. I'm sure the spray works too.

No photos but a description of the insects might help someone with some possible IDs
Are they grubs that crawl?
Are they flying insects?
What colour?
As much detail as you can supply will help narrow down the possibilities.

With just 'indoor' and 'in the soil' I'm guessing fungus gnats but that's just a wild guess given no further info. I don't think Fungus gnats cause leaf damage but they usually turn up when indoor pots are overwatered and overwatering can cause root problems which can lead to leaf damage.

Thanks for your reply, I will look into it!

I did have photos but I lost them and I can’t seem to find the insects right now. There where two types of insects roaming around. One was white and really small, barely noticeable. The other one is brown and seems to be even smaller. I only spotted them in the soil and never on the tree itself.
