Hi,

In case my profile doesn't show, I'm in Ohio Zone 6b. I have my first Bonsai, a Fukien Tea I've named Patience. The growth was very chaotic, and I've done an initial pruning to start things in a better direction. I've sprayed with Neem oil due to some aphids and the only ones I see now are dead. My question is that while the leaves are still green and sturdy, there's been no growth at all. I do use a light to supplement natural light as our house doesn't face in a conducive direction. I was thinking that due to the climate, lighting, and time of year this probably isn't unusual, but wanted to check. I am already in love with this adventure and look forward to continuing to learn from everyone here. Thanks!

Don't expect much this time of year. I'm in Ohio, too, and my fukiens mostly pout during the winter months. Drop leaves, no growth, discolored leaves, fungal growth along the trunk and branches. Then, come summer, watch out!

If I recall correctly neem oil while leafed out can significantly slow growth- in extreme light even cook the plant..

It also appears you've already downsized into a small pot which does restrict and slow growth but it looks like it's going to be fine, any slowness with it simply means patience for a better result!

Look forward to seeing the lil fella grow

Thanks for your replies and reassurance that things seem fine so far. I'll update on progress on this or another thread.

Mine does nothing in winter inside. I get it outside once temps are consistently above 50deg in spring and it grows well.
