I have a Fuji cherry that I stuck cuttings from on July 3rd. They are in a coconut coir/perlite substrate in a propagation dome with a heat mat underneath. From what I have read I should expect them to root in 1-3 months.

1) Have I properly followed the correct steps for cuttings?
2) what signs are the best way to know roots have formed and to begin to decrease humidity? I don’t trust the light tug and feel resistance method.

maybe you can tell us the steps you took?

I took cuttings from this years growth that was still green ( softwood) as well as some from last years growth (semi hardwood) of various lengths. I used bonsai shears to cut straight, not angled. I wounded the bark near the bottom and dipped it into rooting powder. I also cut the remaining top leaves in half to reduce transpiration.

Is this Fuji cherry or Mt Fuji flowering cherry? I took cuttings last week from my Mt Fuji, green but firm, same as your process but using perlite. When checked yesterday, I noticed some callusing and lenticels were swelling.

To be precise it is a prunus incisa ‘little twist’. I have included pictures of the tree, it’s leaf and branch structure.
