I'm assuming my neighbor's beech is European at this point, but Google Lens said Japanese - definitely don't think it's American. Will be starting cold strat in a month or two for most.

After 120 days of cold strat, and no germination, I got a fridge thermometer and found out my fridge was staying (unhealthily) warm. Cranked it down and got some to germinate, but didn't protect them and the squirrels or mice or earwigs got them. At least my food will be safer now
