From Conifer Divison: Njyamadori juniper whips

So I got about 10 juniper whips and a pine . I’m gonna wire them up all into crazy movement and develop them into quality shohin bonsai stock ! I have ito and Kishu whips to play around with. They are gonna take longer than the time for this contest but I still want to show my progress in developing them . I got these from John Eads at an amazing price so get check out left coast bonsai if you want to do the same .

This first batch is all fully wired and I have ordered even more(10) whips . Here is pictures of the first batch

These look great. It is so hard to see what is going on in the photos, but the bends look nice. My teacher always said that when doing early development wiring on Junipers, the goal is to create complicated puzzles. You can solve those puzzles later when it is time to refine the tree. But when initial wiring you should not really consider the "front" or if the bends work together, etc. Just go crazy and create a bit of chaos and then sort it out years later by creating jins, etc.
Looking forward to seeing these develop

My two cents: I found out this year that if I use tighter coils (less space in between wraps) I can also do tighter bends. Looks ugly, but it works.
Especially in those first years that might be the difference between good and great later on.

Good luck this winter. Keep in mind they (itoigawa and kishu) can go golden brown from the cold, nothing to worry about.

So I have wired them all up and will show them all in the spring . Today I did an experiment slip pot of one of the kishu. I will probably do 1 more of the kishu and 1 of my Beautyberry. I know people love and hate these pots but I think they will work good .

So I also have this ito that he gave me. I finished the wiring today with motion .
I also want this to grow fast so I put it in this big free draining container for growing.

nice work. i have a feeling down the road you will be really happy you bought these and twisted them up.

I’ve found junipers don’t really appreciate colanders the way pines do. if possible getting them in the ground at some point will really help hem grow fatter faster.

I really like the density of the curves on this guy: once the trunk thickens up a bit it'll be something pretty impressive I think.
