Frankenstein Tamarix

Hello, Darlene!
Give it a chance, you will have real fun growing this.
These are real drinkers! And they sprout from everywhere, at least in my part of the world.
In my country we use a high percentage of organic medium into the substrate mixture.

I hope so...it's a shrub I loved in the yard. It does have organic medium in the substrate as well. It's doing great this season after I removed the soil it was in and changed it out for bonsai substrate. Was afraid to do that when it was so weak...but it's leaps and bounds healthier and I see new growth of roots under the soil so that is a plus too.

I thought they were drought tolerant, maybe I'm confused with another in the yard...will check that out too thanks for the heads up!

Here, they can grow as hard wood cuttings of 7cm and more in diameter!
We put them into plain water (or willow water) and they emit roots very soon. Change water often so that oxygen is present.

Had no idea, thanks for sharing that info with me...We planted another in the yard for my son's graduation party. But frosts pushed it up...and I didn't check it. So had some major die back this winter. Seeing I needed to correct issues with several of my landscape plants this spring.

Hello, @AlainK :)
We take them late winter.
If this species is around there in France it's worth trying it. It can make a spectacular weeping form.
They are quick growing, too!
I will try and post some pictures later of the tamarix of a member of our club.

I apologize for the size of the photos... I don't know how to resize them

It also needs constant prunning, apart from constant watering :)

What is happening...?
I could see the photos while typing but when I posted they are not showing. I can also see them if I hit "edit"
I copied "Image location" and pasted it at the appropriate image icon in order to upload them to forum
Can anyone give me instructions what I have done wrong?

I've got one in my garden that I'm planning to prune, that's why I asked about the timing ;)

Mine is actually a 2 mm cutting I took in early July, more than 15 years ago. It has just finished flowering. I think that there are two main species here in France, they are often found in gardens, and also there are plenty along the Atlantic coast that flower later.

If they can be propagated by cuttings, there's a good chance an air-layer will be successful, that's what I'm going to try soon.

... and thanks for the tip Alexandra, "ευχαριστώ πολύ" ;)

Thanks to Google translate, for Greek is... all Greek to me! Although we have so many words that are part of our common culture, like :
δέντρο
déntro (dendrologie/dendrology, philodendron, etc...)
νεποτισμός
κρίση
...
..
.
φιλοσοφία

Maybe there is some app that restricts posting on antoher website or forum because it uses bandwith. Copy the file on your computer, then post it (with due reference of course, but if it's from a friend's website, i'm sure he won't mind a little publicity).

Or give the URL. If it's from a forum where people have to register, no wonder we can't see the pics. I'l try this: here is a photo from a forum where only registered members can see the photos:

Can you see it?...

Edit 1 : I can, but I'm still logged in

Edit 2 : I still can, although i've logged out. Puzzling...

Edit 3 : download the photo to your computer and attach it as a file if you think you don't infrige your friend's copyrights. To resize photos, I use IrfanView, but there are many other free or open-source software you can use.

Isn't there a thread on "Photos: how to?" here (don't have time to search now)?

There is that ransomware attack that hit Microsoft systems in Europe and around the world. Administrators could be restricting access to try and prevent further attacks.

Sound advice : even our president elected was under attacks from hackers (mainly far-right US extremists it appears). I used to be pretty savvy about the internet a couple of decades ago (^^), but this is going well beyond what I can understand or "counter-code" now.

Going to buy a nex computer soon, and use LINUX instead of Window$ & Micro$oft, should have done that years ago.

So all fake news and spammers are clearly identified, at least...

It is an honour for me that you have spent valuable time to look up Greek words which are the basis for corresponding words in other languages. Thank you!

Now Ι can show you the images. I saved them first to my pc and resized them proportionally.

The owner of this first one, is going to show us a new Tamarix of his. It is a yamadori French Tamarix :) He is very enthusiastic about it and we are looking forward to see the french yamadori.

Alain, based on the above timing (mid April), perhaps you can try a cutting now. You are not as south as we are.

Nevertheless, repotting of the rooted cutting is a delicate procedure. Because the roots have been growing into the water and they are forced into solid medium. So we need to take every care not to damage them.

I hope you enjoy the easiness of this species to root and its speed in terms of increase.
I have done one of my own but neglected its watering and it's gone. My cats however did savour its salty taste while pruning the tender shoots

My pleasure, I'm a 100% European, 100% French, 100% genetically Polish (if that means anything but blue eyes, blond hair and a beer-belly) and 999 % citizen of the world

By the way, my youngest son's quitting a job in Portugal, coming back home for a couple of weeks, and he's applying for a job in Belfast starting in July, in another call-center: anyone there to give him tips about the locals?

He had other opportunities in Brussels and in Greece too, but apparently he wants to learn English - the new lingua franca.

I told him that when I was in Dundee, Scotland, one day I saw the sun going down when coming back from the school. It was really beautiful. then I realised it was 15:45! I felt so depressed, and the pub next door would only open at 5:00...

Anyway, there are always nice, friendly people, wherever you go, I know that from experience, and I like the Irish accent with their funny way to sound the "r"s and the end of the sentences going up, aye ;)

@my nellie wow! Okay...see seeing yours in bloom makes me want to hold off and work the tree. If I ever make it into something...I see the creeper going and it residing in that location as a focal point on the landing coming up the front deck.
