A recent thread about native North American plants used as Bonsai prompted me to go native tree hunting. I bought a wild cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) and thought this specific one was worth trying. It is a flowering vine thus it is kind of common to find them weaving each other like this. I was thinking on making it into a cascade but decided for what you see in the pictures.

The leaves grow to about 4" diameter, the leaves in this tree are below 2" because I cut the larger ones.

The vine flowers supposedly in spring and summer.

Anybody have any experience with wild cotton as bonsai? How long lived is this species?

Thanks
