First time air-layering a JBP

Finally got around to putting an airlayer on this low branch I was gonna eventually cut off anyways. The branch is about 1/3-1/2” thick, a few years old (1-2yo iirc).

My first time trying this with a JBP...but I’ve had success with Juniper and Satsuki Azalea before. So I hope it works. I plan to cutoff, check and re-pot in 1 year.

But, I wanted to know, if it does fail, how many months until the branch browns and dies?

I have had air-layers on JBP for as long as 3 years and they were still very much alive.

I have only tried this a couple of times but no problem. It can take longer than many other species but more like 1 year to get roots. Don't always get lots of roots like maples, etc. Younger wood roots far easier than older so this one should be relatively easy and quick. The only issue might be thickness. Sometimes really thin layers just cannot produce roots.

Yes... just the Bonide Bontone powder stuff I bought from HomeDepot in the past (0.10% IBA).
