First post, figured this place would be a valuable resource to learn and grow as I take on the hobby. I love forums as they always provide so much information and support. I've always been fascinated by plants and have always loved carrying for them. My mother-in-law was a HUGE green thumb, I mean massive garden probably had 400+ pots. She unfortunately recently passed away, and I wanted to carry on her legacy and make use of all the bonsai pots she had that she used for succulents.
I actually tried my hand at this about 2 years back, but the 2 bonsai I had at the time both turned into a chew toy for my dog. Took me awhile to get back into wanting to go back to it.
Since then, I've had a ficus that was gifted to me that I've been letting grow wild for the past 2 years. This weekend I was planning to do some repotting and trimming.
Here's is pics of what I currently have and recently got.
I could use some advice on the ficus as he is out of control. I could use some recommendations on where to create the next apex because I think it's time. He is the most developed and has a lot of potential, I've just sadly not maintained him. But hey, I guess I've kept him alive all this time, now I just need to actually work on him. Lol
The jade was actually gifted to me and has an awesome style all on it's own. Got to trim it up a lot though. Should I wait to repot and just trim up or repot and then trim later in the growing year?
Barbados Cherry recently picked up at my local bonsai store and trimmed up. Also picked up this baby Aratama Maple. He hasn't budded yet, I'm hoping he will do okay. I'm not sure if he's grafted or not, see photo, but figured I'd ask. Either way, really excited to see him grow and going to be wiring him this weekend.
Any advice or recommendations on anything I'm all ears!
Picked up some Akadama, lava rock, and pine shavings for soil mixes. Ready for the weekend and spring!
