I know there are many species of ficus that make amazing bonsai, I’m curious if anyone has played with the edible fig, the cultivar “Violette de Bordeaux” in particular, as I’ve just picked up a small tree.

Do edible fig trees leaves reduce well? What has been your experience?

Edible fig is Ficus carica. It has and can be used for bonsai. The leaves do reduce under good bonsai conditions but they are naturally huge. Even 50% reduction will still leave you with pretty big leaves.

I've seen many medium sized ones from a bonsai nursery and maybe one or two larger specimens. Paired with the large leaves I'll add that branch growth is coarse too, so they can definitely be bonsaied but will look better as a larger tree (Not that that's stopping me from trying to grow one in very limited space :P )
