Ficus microcarpa cuttings

I had one last larger ficus to chop but I already had plenty of individual cuttings so I put ten of them into this 7 gallon nursery pot with used soil. I was going to be happy if 3-5 lived. They all did. The first picture is April 13th the last in this group is from May 5th.

In late July they were getting pretty crowded so I took three out. Forgot to take one of their pictures.

why not tie some cuttings together and fuse them?
microcarpa do seem to throw a few aerial roots...

For this group I will assess how they’re doing in spring and decide what to do from there. I may leave them in a group for a sinewy, swampy forest look. Or pot them up individually and fuse a couple.

I had 3 other large ficus that I chopped down. I tried a few different fusion projects with different sizes of cuttings. I had no luck with smaller ones. There were three with some thicker cuts. Two of them had one piece not take and they fell apart.

Everyone in Florida should grow ficus! Use what does well in your climate.

They look great but you should expect 100% success in your climate.

They certainly will in your climate. Here they take decades.

I like the leave shape and uniformity of this variety. Do you know the cultivar or variety? Was it from a landscape nursery or bonsai?

It doesn’t appear to be the tiger bark variety. Could it be one of the more spreading types sold in the Florida nursery trade (Green mound or Green Island)?

Our ubiquitous F. microcarpa sold in Southern Cali nurseries is usually labeled “Green Gem” and has an upright habit and with leaves tapering more to a point. It is thrip resistant. Although, I’ve seen some especially old varieties in the landscape with similar leaves that are not thrip resistant.

I think that Ficus its the usually called "Green emerald" cultivar, Idk the other comercial names sure have more

Here in Florida they label nearly all landscape microcarpa ficus trees (shrubs) as Green Island. They all require the same care so I don't really worry about it too much.
