Fertilizer Cakes, Circles and Squares

Well today I knocked out fertilizer for the year. I wanted to do it in colder month so I didn't get any bugs. So here goes on the Recipe.

4 parts Bone Meal
4 parts Blood Meal
1 part Flour
1 part Lime
1 Part Kelp Meal
2 Parts Cotten Seed Meal
1/2 Part Cayenne pepper
10 oz Fish/seaweed Fertilizer (Neptune's)
4 oz super thrive
4 oz Iron
4 oz B-52 (supplement fertilizer)
4 oz Ancient Earth (supplement fertilizer)
As Needed Water

I did then is few sizes including scoops to see what works best. They are in the shed with a heater drying up. First time making my own and it wasn't cheap all together it was $300 but it also yield 44 pans dry weight some where around 68/lb so I got plenty for the summer.

BTW they are animal proof everything but birds.

Paul, it seems you tried to cover "ALL" the base's" You can do a much simpler, cost effective and effective mix by eliminating a few of the ingredients next year.

You'll want to get them out of the pans and into open air/sun so they dry completely, and fairly quickly. A couple days in that shed and you'll have a healthy crop of mold growing on those puppies, which will return as soon as you place them on the soil.

Always a sense of accomplishment to get the year's cakes made.

edit: agree with Wood...lots of ingredients (reminiscent of Persiano's recipe in the '90s). The Nepture's Harvest is good stuff, I go through about 2 gal/year!

These where cost effective much cheaper than the ones I buy and have way more punch. As well as these ones are Animal Proof.

...Because if that's what you're banking on, know that my dog lapped up cayenne/habanero laced Fertilizer cakes. (Squirrels weren't deterred for long either.)

I second this. We used to put cayanne in holes our dogs dug to stop them and they would walk around with it all around their noses with no issues. We put it on a potato chip and gave it to them to see if they'd still do it and they took the chip, kept licking their chops but still asked for more.

I've a turdinator in the house...I am not comfortable using cakes in my pots. We try and redirect and such...but times are when she just has an inner need to eat poop. I doubt seasoning would deter her much...we put Cheyenne pepper in the bird feed to deter squirrels...never stopped them. Wishing you success with critters leaving the patties alone.

I used chili pepper in my cakes too, and some critter still managed to climb up our balcony, and make an absolute mess of my drying cakes. Go easy on the fish emulsion. I stinks like hell, but the woodland creatures think it's a steak dinner.

I made cakes about a decade ago with just cottonseed meal, bone meal, blood meal, miracle gro and some liquid Sevin insecticide...my dog LOVED them. Good news is...a little bit of Sevin isn't that toxic to big dogs...I think it just made him gassy.
