Imperial Masterpiece
I picked this one up for a few quid from a hedging nursery. the material is quite young but i think it has a future as a tall and slender tree and of course the training tub its in will see it develop well, i started out with some basic structure work, chopping back bits here n there for taper and movement, this was the first idea..

Too many straight lines. i feel the tree had great movement, a nice curve in the trunk but then the trunk line shoots up abruptly and i thought this didnt look very natural....the tree could be improved by using the lower right branch as the new leader and bending it, by bending the new leader, the sinuous movement in the lower trunk could be completed and flow into the apex. taper and movement dramatically improved...

potential for a broom maybe, but i prefer the taller look for this material

theres some roots at the surface that i think will improve with development so everything has been covered with spag moss

i didnt tease out all the roots on this material like i usually do, i find that nursery trees can sometimes take long to recover when treated like this and sometimes grow slowly for the first season. instead i just raked out the surface, cut around the sides a little and sliced the entire pot bound cake of roots in half and placed new soil all around and into a slightly bigger training pot.
