Did this. I had fun so I guess that matters. Hopefully it survives the pruning. It’s a start. I just left the top as is as I wasn’t sure if it’s fine as an apex like that or if I should reduce

I should say I know the top isn’t “fine” as is, but as for the length and fullness etc not sure if that’s ok. I have to figure out what to do if I just keep wiring branches down like the topmost wired branches that just stop and go into an untamed apex

Not a bad start at all. I don't think you necessarily need to reduce it, not yet anyway. What I would do is, get some larger gauge copper wire (6 or 8 depending on thickness of the trunk) on the main trunk and put some movement into it. I have no experience with DAS, but I've heard they have very long memory, meaning, they take a long time for the branches to set. You'll probably have to rewire it more than once.

Thanks for your input. I do want it informal upright. I figured I was using the curve that was in it as movement but I hear u I can look into wiring the main trunk

Yeah, I'm talking about putting movement into the upper two-thirds of the tree. I might even reduce the crown a bit.

Something like this:

The red line indicates a rough Idea of what I'd do to the trunk. Basically, you put 3D movement into the trunk by twisting in the same direction that the wire is applied. Anchor it by shoving it down in the soil.

ah I see. Good to see the idea drawn out. Thanks for the idea!
