I got a new Duranta last year which is now my second one. I thought I would track its progress here as well as show updates on my older one which many have seen before. The newer one is about twice as big and I believe has more potential as the smaller one. The first pic is when I bought it at the nursery. It was 6' tall and I got it for $45. The other pics are its progression over the last year with the last one being today.

I see you have the wire off the one on the left, since the previous picture.

It is a nicely proportioned tree, pot and all.
Looking good!
Yes, not a wire on it at the moment. Thanks for the compliment.
Do you know what kind of pot that is???
The blueish one...?
I do not know what type of pot. No markings on it. I got it from House of Bonsai in Lakewood Ca. It was cheap likd 45$. I don't think this is a high quality pot but I like it also. Last time I was there they had more of these and in different sizes.

Yeah, I have some cheapo pots that I like too...
Cool!

Here is a progression of my smaller/older Duranta. I've posted this tree several times for various reasons but I don't have a thread on it.

Hello,

do you have any new pictures of this tree? The photos so far are great thanks, lots of great tips to take away. I have a duranta, posted in the thread here : https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/please-post-some-of-your-trees.10318/page-6

If you have any tips on design I'd be very happy to hear(read) them. The internet, this site especially, is the only resource I have in terms of bonsai, soo sorry if I come off over enthusiastic.

By the way, your duranta is coming along very well.

Cheers!

Wow! What a beauty! I have a duranta tree and it forever blooms. Thinking of getting another just to make it a bonsai. Any tips you could give would be gtraly appreciated .

@thomas22 I know this is an old thread, but do you still have your duranta's? I just got a little bitty one and wondered if you have any tips or tricks. I'm sure in Cali you can probably keep yours outside all year. Mine actually came from Fresno, but will have to spend the winter indoors.

I still have both my Duranta and they are doing well. They are pretty indestructible but I would say cold weather is the biggest threat. I keep mine outside all winter with a low around 40 but they act like deciduous trees. They lose all their leaves but come back strong in the spring. I love me some Duranta and think they are very underrated as Bonsai. I have more tips but got to run right now. I'll get back to you.

Update on my new Duranta from post #1. This tree was ready for a styling pretty much all year but I just didn't know what to do with it. The flowers kind of hang down like a Wisteria so I decided to go for a weeping style. I included the picture from two and a half years ago so you can see how fast they develop. The second picture was last night before styling and next 2 pictures were about 4 hours later showing front and back.

Such pretty flowers, can't wait to see mine bloom! I have to keep mine inside for the winter, but it is doing very well under lights.
