Does this soil look quite old and can I still repot it?

Hello everyone, I recently got this ficus which I quite like. However, the soil isn't in great condition. Do you think that it is worth repotting into better soil? I do not know how long it has been in this soil. Should I wait until next year to repot?

Does the soil still drain well? It does look bad from the photo, but drainage tells the true story. Ficus like to be repotted in summer, so this is a good time to do it. No need to wait.

It looks pretty wet and heavy even for a ficus that like it wetter. I usually repot my ficus around 4th of July, ie summer

Yes, ficus are repotted during the summer.
They like the warmer temperatures in summer.

Yes, ficus and other tropicals are best repotted when in active growth and the weather is warm, even hot.
