Anyone work with something this small?

Just something fun I've been playing with. Don't know how it will turn out. Crassula ovata _ Jade Tree, not well esteemed as a material for a bonsai. Keeping the leaves reduced may be a problem.
Grown from leaf off of my big plant/tree. About a year old.

Would like to see pics of others working something this small.

Is there a term for this size?

I love em! Here is some work of a guy named Robert Steven.
http://www.bonsaiempire.com/blog/mini-bonsai

Google finger tip bonsai and shito bonsai

I've been looking for his book Vision of My Soul for about a year. Very limited (1500 copies) and out of print. Finally found a copy the other day that I was able to acquire. Can't wait to jump into it!

Size classifications.

Keishi Bonsai (thumb size) = Up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) in height.
Shito Bonsai ( very small) = Up to 3 inches (7.5 cm) in height.
Mame Bonsai (mini) = Up to 6 inches (15 cm) in height.
Shohin Bonsai ( small) = Up to 8 inches (20 cm) in height.
Kifu Sho Bonsai (medium) = Up to 16 inches (40.5 cm) in height.
Chu Bonsai (medium large) = Up to 24 inches (61 cm) in height.
Dai Bonsai (large) = Up to 40 inches (101 cm) in height.

I knew there was another size but could not remember... Thanks! I just think the minis are sooo amazing!

Wow book is pricey on amazon. Hope you did better.

That pot is incredible! Where from?

Wicked sick,

Tiny trees are great fun, but at least in MY mind there is a question as to whether that succulent can be called a "tree."

Let us know what you think about the book. I read a review of one of his books, maybe Mission of Transformation, that said the translation was really wacky.

Does anyone know of a source for the tiny-ish pots to grow these in. I have been looking and can't find any source other than a few examples on ebay, pricey too.

Thanks,

John

I saw some mini ones at Bogans.

Iker has some small ones!

Really simple to make and have someone kiln fire.

There used to be a seller on Amazon - Happy Bonsai, who had them in the 10's and 20's but when I checked, looked like she has left. Hong Kong based and keeps a Blog as Happy Bonsai.
Really, unique and beautiful pots from Yi Xing as well.

Bonsai at the Monastery also had, at a reasonable price. The succulent is in one of their pots.

Personally more fun to make than purchase.
Good Day
Anthony

Good mame pots aren't cheap. For some of these I spent twice what I spent on many of my hand-thrown pots picked up at shows, etc. They are VERY hard to find in the USA, except for crappy bathtub-shaped blue Chinese junk.
