Hi all,
I presented this tree 2 years ago here.
In this 2 years the trunk has thickened more than I wanted, so I have discarded the idea of making a shohin and will make it a little bigger.
As you can see in the photos, it is developing shoots in many places, which gives me plenty of options to continue building it.

I have made this simulation with paint as a possible option:

The idea is to let 3 large, almost horizontal branches grow on the right side and a new leader on the left side, making that whole side of the tree thickener, so that it is level with or even slightly above the right side.

I want to think carefully about this next step since it is the one that will define the future design of the tree.
Do you think its a good option? any other ideas? :)

Definitely not too thick for shohin. Shohin doesn’t mean “skinny little trunk”, it just means 8” or less. I have a few shohin JMs in development that are around that thickness
What @SeanS said… go SUMO!

yep, it`s a possibility, but how should I continue developing it, i mean , what style best suits what I have so far?
What @SeanS said… go SUMO!

I don't know if I would be able to develop a tree with branches as fine as a sumo, that is why I prefer other designs.

I could value a shohin but a sumo is a big deal!!!

thanks for your draw. I Like the design, it is very similar to the one I posted before.
One thing im not very sure is how to make the chop for the new leader...

Should i make a concave cut above all the new buds not touching them just to make sure they help to close the wound and later get rid of the ones that in not going to use as branches?

Thanks!

It reminds me of this (shohin) JM

In my opinion your trunk is actually perfect for shohin and not thick enough for larger styles

I see the obvious leader is the right, the left one in your first post is a waste of the movement you created

Your tree could be a bit taller than this one due to the straight first section of trunk,

But I'm wondering if thickening the lower branch on the right (under the trunk) could provide movement very similar to the first bend of my tree

Seems let that new leader you pointed to grow out and don’t do anything before next year I’m guessing regarding carving back since they tend to have some die back. If you do it now seems like it might die back to trunk?

I think this gives the best option. I would get rid of the left branch as Roadman stated, it ruins the movement. I wouldn't chop back the stump yet. Wait until your leader is strong enough to take over and heal that wound once you cut it back.
