Dealing with large scars - willow leaf ficus

Just picked up this tree yesterday, it has, this huge bulbous scar, in a place that it’s not good. Will the willow leaf ficus respond to simply carving it down and not allowing new growth to form there, which would obviously lead to the same thing happening again?

I am not sure, but I think you might be stuck cutting below the swelling and rebuilding from there. I have one of those with the exact same problem in some places. Other willow leafs that I chopped for myself a long time ago do not have this problem - probably due to the much slower growth in my climate!

At the minimum, I would consider removing that branch and reworking the tree using the other two branches. Where I am, we can chop those things very low and get 20+ new buds a month later.
