I've got to deal with some escape roots. For two separate reasons, one pot I ran out of shelf room, so I simply put it on the ground in my planting area. In the second, was a small 6 inch plastic pot that kept getting blown over in the wind. So I filled up the 12 inch pot with pumice, and buried the bottom third to half of the pot in the larger pot. It did a great job of keeping the tree stable over the summer. Both cases escape roots unintentional and I have a fair amt of roots to deal with now. Prob quite a bit more in the pumice.

Does anyone know, if I can just leave everything where it is, and cut off the roots right before putting them away for the winter away, or do I need to cut now? Not sure why I can't leave it till winter storage.

Thx
Chris

If they are very fine feeder roots, probably should not be a problem.
If of any size... I would suggest leaving the one in the larger pot with pumice
till spring and carefully digging the one on the ground up and doing as you
have done with the other. Put the whole pot in a larger pot with pumice.
Then store them like this till spring. And do it asap...

If you have to cut, do asap...

Cool, thx for advice. Sounds like a good game plan.

What kind of trees are they?

Ok, really weird spam! They are j. maples. Though never mind on the other one, not nearly as many roots and what was there got lost getting them out of the ground. Lesson for me at least, pumice is the sh*t! ;)
