This little dawn redwood was thrown in the ground for a year and I kinda forgot about it. I noticed it had a little personality and threw some wire on it and got it into this training pot.

I know I should probably get a little more downward movement on the branches and reduce thier length. It needs movement the trunk as well, and of course some work on the to-be deadwood feature. The lowest branch crossing the deadwood seems weird.

Any suggestions or critiques highly encouraged SmartSelect_20250410_180228_Instagram.jpg

Branch crossing the deadwood is easily fixed - shorten the dead section. Feels way too long and skinny to me as it is.
Trunk bends is totally up to you but my understanding of Dawn redwood is generally straight and upright trunks. I've spent much more time trying to straighten trunks after pruning.

Looks like all 3 branches are toward the front so far. I think you need a back branch for depth. Fingers crossed for some shoots to develop round the other side sometime.
