Picked up this Dawn Redwood forest and pot at our club auction last fall. The pot is really huge (about 25-26 inches across) and unique and that's mainly what I was bidding on - it was made by an older member of the club who can't really do pottery anymore and I want to own a few pieces of his work. Anyway, this is what it looked like last fall.

Thought that pot was a bit too big unless I was going to add 5-6 more seedlings, so I did some major rootwork (was in very organic soil, got rid of about 60% of that) and got some better soil in there. Re-arranged slightly and put it in this unglazed pot for now. Definitely will do quite a bit of trimming to adjust tree and canopy heights in the future, but I think I like where it's heading. Probably will introduce 1 or 2 smaller seedlings in at some point too. Not this year.

Nice work with the rearrangement.
Dawn redwoods are beauties and such a joy to work with.

These are very nice. I've always been hesitant to grab up a grove fearing root overgrowth and just not knowing if I'll cut one root system too short. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

How is your redwood grove doing this spring?

Haha, one of the trees’ root systems might have been cut short! The other 4 trees look great.
I’ll get a picture after the convention.

Oh no! Now I am definitely rethinking...but I really like them.

I would definitely do the same thing, FWIW. I hope it recovers okay, and if not...there are dead trees in forests.

A photo would be great! Enjoy the convention. Nice weather for it.
