I wired a small shimpaku and may have bent a branch too far. It's an upward-reaching branch and the connecting node seems to be cracked about halfway through. The wiring is holding it in place.

Any comments on what's likely to happen or anything I could do to help it?

Seal it and let it be... Don't try to fix if its broken. If it turns pale soon after the work it's gone.

What Ris said. FYI, some actually do that intentionally when wiring juni. If the damage is only where you showed it...you should be fine.

It should be fine if it is still connected on both sides, and it's immobilized.
it is an effective technique, best done in the spring, to add character and get dramatic movement:

1. Wrap with raffia behind the intended split to stop it from running too far.
2. Make the cut with root cutters/branch splitters so plenty is attached on both sides.
3. Wire into place (or guy-wire) so it won't move.
4. Keep split open with a piece of wood or bamboo.

Here's an example of one I did in March on the apex of a small shimpaku, and current shot of it happily trucking along:

I used gorilla glue on a juniper last year. I think it's stronger now tan before.
