Cryptomeria japonica 'Black Dragon'

Let me know what you find as I'm in need of some myself and I'm just down the street from there.

This thread is 5 years old, lol. I've moved onto lava rock and pumice.

Glad this thread was revived. I bought a couple about three years ago, thinking they might make good bonsai. Then decided to use them as landscape shrubs. Their performance to date has been underwhelming. They are susceptible to something (mites?) that causes the foliage to turn brown. One began to grow laterally, and is now being corrected with string and poles. I will say, though, that I noticed this weekend that one of the plants actually looks good now and grew quite a lot over the winter. After seeing these nice bonsai specimens, maybe I should take another look at my impulse to give them a try on the bench.

Thank you Ryan, I was just wanting to know if there was anyplace locally that you went to that I may not know about yet. Being so new I'm all about driving everyone crazy with questions. Sorry, just let me know if I'm driving you crazy.

Hey everyone,

I picked up this Japanese Cedar from my local "bonsai" nursey for a mere $15. May sound like a lot, but at this place you can get small bags of "bonsai" soil for $10, so I'm fine with this purchase. It is about 2 feet tall and has a trunk of about half an inch or more. I will have to put this into a grow box or bigger pot, but I just thought I would share it with everyone and see what your opinions of it are. Here it is:
