I’ve taken on my first Crepe Myrtle for my bonsai garden but I need help with a recommendation on a soil mix. Currently the tree is in a 5 gallon plastic pot in whatever soil mix it came in from the garden center.
I appreciate any advice on a soil mix before I repot.

Thanks!

I’m in Sonoma County, CA 9B

They do fine for me in a standard bonsai mix - pumice, lava, akadama 1:1:1. They also seem to do fine in 100% pumice. Be sure to match your watering to the soil you use. 100% pumice needs more frequent watering and fertilizing.

Standard bonsai soil mix will work well for them.

I am not sure about your area, but they are near impossible to kill here. So much so, that one of the popular (but controversial) pruning practices here is referred to as "crepe murder".
