I have the opportunity to collect an absolutely crazy juniper. (Trunk at least 6” across)

Any suggestions?

Research, plan timing, plan it all out very carefully, expect it to take longer than you think, bring a friend and use proper lifting techniques to save your back. Plan the proper aftercare before you dig or it could all be for nothing. Otherwise it looks like it could have potential with years of dedicated and consistent training.

what type of juniper is it?

get as much of the rootball as you can. Plan to dig early spring. Prepare prepare prepare.

You say 'crazy' because the trunk is thick? Because the trunk is twisted? Because it is certain to make a great bonsai?
Before getting too carried away, please bear in mind:
Junipers can be difficult to transplant.
Most conifers don't shoot well on bare wood so we usually need to design the future bonsai from the existing foliage or plan on a long term grafting program to get viable foliage where needed.
Large trunks are very heavy. Make an estimate on weight then double that to gauge how much this will weigh. Maybe even double that again if you have little experience in weight of plants. Now plan how to handle it when you dig and get it into a pot.
Trunks and roots are inevitably much bigger than your initial estimate. Plan on having several larger containers as backups when you dig.
We need to leave plenty of healthy growing tips on junipers for successful transplant. Need to work out how you can get in to dig through hard soil and tough roots. Also plan how to chop through vertical down roots that inevitably make it difficult to get an established tree out of the ground.
How will you transport the collected tree from there to home? From experience, vehicle doors and head room suddenly shrink when you bring a large tree close.

If the transplant is successful, your juniper will eventually need a bonsai pot. That pot will be BIG. Allow 3-4 trunk diameters wide at least. Now check cost of such a pot and where you'll keep it.
Also allow for weight and size of the bonsai. Will you be able to take it to a show? Will you be able to move it to rotate for even growth, to move for Winter or Summer? Will you be able to mange it to repot when the time comes?

Big bonsai are impressive but often more trouble than they are worth IMHO.

If you are still keen after reading all this then I wish you every success with this transplant.

nice trunk.

Before you break your back: Are you prepared to spend 10 years getting it back to health & foliage grafted near the trunk so you can make it a bonsai?
Dang, sounds like I'm 5 years behind on mine 😢
Trying fall grafting instead of spring now.
