Crabapple leaf rust/insect damage?

Definitely looks like rust. Crabs are disease magnets. Normally we spray copper on all fruiting trees at least every month in spring/fall as our summer is very dry.

We don’t defoliate ours, only cut to green during the growing season. In late winter normally do hard cutbacks.

Cheers

If it weren't for my next door neighbor having peach and apple trees, I'd cut down the crabapple in my own yard. Still might. My procumbens had the CAR this year pretty good.

Ugh! Same here. Fruit trees all over the block. Lots of rain. Going diving in Indonesia for over two weeks didn’t help. Missed a spray cycle.

Came back to see it on two of the three shimpakus!
