Could somebody identify whether the sprout is from the scion or root stock?

Hello,

I have two grafted Indian gooseberries and even after 2 months of buying them, the sprouts have never come from the scion part. Much of the scion has dried. I bought them in order to have a Bonsai with fruits in a year or two.

1) Could you please identify whether the sprouts (the one from the scion) are useful?

2) If they are not useful, which is what I think, should I be discarding the plants or could they be useful as rootstocks for grafting at a later stage?

I would appreciate any help.
Thanks!Indian_gooseberry resized.jpgIndian_gooseberry1 (1).jpg

Your camera has focussed on the pot behind instead of the stem so it's a bit hard to be sure of what I'm seeing.
I'm pretty confident the second pic shows a shoot well above possible grafts.

The red circle is the most likely graft. Looks very much like a cleft graft.
The blue circle is possibly a graft but not as likely as the lower area.
There is one spot above the sprout shown that's possibly a bud union but more likely the top of the scion.

The first photo is just too unclear to hazard a guess on where it might be grafted.

Okay. Thanks Shibui. I will post a better snap tomorrow.

I hope I have some better pictures this time. Still, the graft joint in this tree is small and it is difficult to figure out whether the sprout has come below or above the joint. Maybe you could help me out. There is some wrapped plastic still left on the joint.

Thanks!IMG_20250306_153342 (1).jpgIMG_20250306_153444 (1).jpgIMG_20250306_153703 (1).jpg

Your camera is still focusing behind the sprout you're interested in. Do you have a backdrop or a piece of cardboard or something that you can put behind the sprout to help your camera focus properly?

It looks to me like most of those are emerging below the graft union, but without a clear focused image of the upper ones, I can't say where they're coming from.

Yeah. I too think they are below the joint. I will discard this plant and let the other one grow. Thanks!
