Awesome. What are next steps? Will you angle the cut at some point?

I am planning to develop 3 tops coming from near even spacing on the trunk. These 3 top branches will keep the entire trunk alive. I don't want a dead spot on the trunk that will cause a dead spot on the nebari. Then I will carve the trunk down from the 3 tops. Imagine something like the one by @johng below but with 3 stagger tops at differing height to appear like a clump but with a single base. Now that is my vision. How it turns out depends on a lot of things like my meager skill levels.

Uncle, I can visualize the tree you described... should be really cool. I believe in you... when will I see the initial phase of this? Maybe this weekend? :)

The top won't be touched for another month or two. The branches are really small now and the roots down below are too little to truly support such a big trunk. I won't touch the top until the branches are at least 3/8" in diameter. Then I will do branch selection and grow the selected ones to 5/8" before styling. So next year is the likely answer.

This tree originally had three live points… unfortunately two died and I was left with just one.

Jack Skellington approves of this 😃👍

looking forward to this thread,, I think you are going to have a really interesting unique tree

More carving today. The edge is reduced to 5/8”. Future plan is to bore the trunk with a big drill bit like @johng said. I think I will let the tree grow for now and do the trunk bore and root split in the spring.
