Hi,

I’ve had this cherry pre bonsai for several months, and since a few months the leaves have started to get lighter.

It gets a lot of direct sunlight every day (might be the issue?), I water it semi daily dependent on the weather, and I’ve given it a good amount of Biogold fertilizer

Any ideas?

Need your location to be of any help. Please click on you icon, then provide it about section. It is CRITICAL for us to help you, since climate is a huge part of how bonsai are cared for.

Also provide more specific about fertilization, watering, soil etc. This looks like fertilizer burn to me, but could be a few other things as well, including sun scald.

I’m in USDA Hardiness zone 8b. I’ll check later how I can add it to my account or post.

More specific info about fertilization, like how many cubes of biogold? I don’t really remember tbh.

I check the soil every day to see whether it’s dry and water accordingly. The soil is pretty dense, it came in this soil when I purchased it so not sure what it is.

Water Hardness is 8 dh (?), ph-value is 7,8 (tab water) or 5 (rain water)

In addition to your location - what can you tell us about your water? Do you know its pH and relative hardness?

Biogold shouldn't be a problem. I'd suspect sun scald (overexposure/sunburn). Does the tree get afternoon sun? and how many hours? Also how hot has it been in your area?

Thanks, sun scald could be. It’s getting full sun the whole day basically, like 12-14 hours. The weather hasn’t been especially warm but it’s summer and there have been days where it’s between 25-30 C (77-86 F)

Do you perhaps have a recommendation for how much sun it should get? I thought it’d be okay with full sun.

Full sun also heats up the pot and roots. That can push heat stress. I'd get it into afternoon shade. 8 hours of sun should be fine. Cover the pot with a white cloth/towel to shade the soil/pot. That might help as well.

Will do, thanks for the tips I appreciate it!
