I would go with the red line, possibly even a little lower.

That is a nice diameter trunk. ut at the red line, then let grow out, pick a branch to become the second segment of trunk. Let run wild until the second segment is over half the diameter of the first segment. Chop again, second segment should be shorter than the first. Repeat cycle as many times as you can, though 3 segments of trunk is usually enough to give good illusion of taper.

Initially I cut it just above the blue because I liked the movement in that area and slight taper, but after sleeping and seeing it in the light it takes a VERY specific angle to see it and no promises as it grows back, so I cut it back down just under the red (there was a weird bulge from most angles we’re it’s grownand cut back several times) it’s about 3-4in at the trunk add another 1-2 at the nabari point.. and about a can tall. There’s a few little starts under the cut points so not super worried it’ll live. It had the most compact mostly radial football I’ve ever seen from nursery stock. Cut the tap and some random larger/non radial ones and cut the root all shallower to fit in the pot, didn’t really barefoot but had to wash some dirt out to see some roots, so now time to wait and see!

I’ll get a pic up when I get home!

Pictures!

My dude, you will love this tree! Absolute best there is for Vegas. Just don't over water till it starts pushing leaves. The only time I have killed them is overwatering after massive root work. Not at this time of year but I have removed 90% of the rootball on these and they don't skip a beat. If you have any questions just ask.

Will do! Thanks! I removed a lot. Prob 50-60% of the rootball cause that’s all I needed to fit it in a pot next year I’ll prob do a bit more esp from the bottom, but give it fall growing season to fill out and recover a bit.
