this was the first "bonsai" i purchased myself (technically first was a gift ficus that was already rotted out from home depot lol)purchased it some time around may/june of 2022

i fairly quickly decided to try and turn it into a cascade for better or worse.

about 10 months of growth for this 1st pic. and just past a year or so for the 2nd picture.

And then as somewhat of an experiment/taking someone online's word decided to try and defoliate it since i knew there was s till a long time left of summer here.

And here it is today, just about a month and a week from the defoliation, it exploded pretty hard after that. (though not sure if i hindered it's growth or not on that move).

some minor adjustments on wiring. And also realizing how bad I am at taking pictures of this...lol

do you have any space outside for this tree? It would really love to be outside, especially in your long summers. I'd imagine you could get at least 9 months outside, but I know you've had a lot of freak frosts.

Oh yea, it's outside already. You can see in pictures 3 and 6.

Just a small space outside with no lighting so I take them inside when I'm doing work or taking pictures lol

I love fukien teas, and I really like your tree.
I have had a really hard time keeping them outside. They seem to get way too wet or the wrong light, etc. Really hard for me to control them. :/

Unfortunately I think my other Fukien tea is gonna be a gonner. It got some root rot, not sure if the Houston heat was just too much for it this year or what

But this one I've had no problems with. I take it inside at a window once it drops under about 60-65 regularly

This fukien actually survived some how! just gotta get it through winter though, but i can't believe it came back.
As for the cascade, just got the grow lights set up indoors to give them a bit more in the winter than the window
