I dug up some trees today...will get pics once I clean the roots up. Till then, here's an oddball fusion I stumbled upon in the woods. American hornbeam and American elm getting cozy, looked to be fully fused.

That is pretty damn cool! Is this one to dig up? Would love to see this turned into a bonsai with mixed foliage

Yeah, plan is to dig it. Base is maybe 8 inches, didnt dig out the base so not sure what it looks like, but most of the trees in the area have great radial roots, elms are hit and miss though so half of it may have a nice nebari

About 20 days until I can finally start digging up the trees I've got my eye on. I'm so damn excited I can hardly stand it. lol

It's a good time to take cuttings as well correct?
There's a Kousa Dogwood (Cornus Kousa) and a Japanese Maple (Acer Palmatum) that I have been given permission to take a branch from each, and I'd like to get them started if I can.

SPRING TIME! Let me out of this damn house! lol

I hear you! I am dying of digging the trees I found in the fall, including a gorgeous old larch.

Will do. Would have dug it today, but I woke up so sore from dragging the trees out of the woods yesterday, with their wet soil, that I woke up for about 4 hours then took a 6 hour nap today .

Pretty big, plus the 2 rock slabs we found. Problem is, there are 3 downed monster oaks across the old logging road to cross as well. The walk back is mostly uphill, one portion of which is pretty steep. Had a member of our club doing an article on my collecting with me, but it was still a lot of work, he can't do much heavy lifting. I'd lost my good root hook so couldn't clean up the rootballs much. Plus it was getting dark quick by the time we left the woods.

Decent sized barber for size reference. Also a reminder of how thin my hair is getting

Was tough getting that one out. Took close to an hour I would say.
