I bought a redwood this weekend and it's in a 5 gallon pot, it's got quite a large caliper trunk.

I want to make a redwood/conifer forest but I don't know if it's compatible with:

1) Small 1 gallon redwood, is dramatically thinner trunk - only 1

2)Giant Sequoia - same trunk size approx - only 1

Bald cypress only 1

Dawn redwood only 1

Spruce - dozen

Would this work?
I've wanted to make a group bonsai for a few years now but I don't have more than 2 of anything except privet and camellia and azalea and willow and cherry and apple and spruce
That sounded like a lot but none seem group-plant-able.

I dunno, that's quite a variation in species. You may have more trouble than it's worth. You'll need to keep the Spruce and other trees cold enough to induce dormancy, but also not too cold for the Coast Redwood. You'll need to keep the Bald Cypress wet, but not too wet that you drown the Giant Sequoia. I wouldn't try it.

Bald Cypress really like to be wet. The only one on your list that may tolerate that amount of water might be the dawn redwood.

You could keep some spruces pruned heavily and let others grow out. As long as you remembered which was to be which, you would eventually have different trunk sizes.

You really need to match growing requirements when making a forest. This list is not well matched.
