You should remove as much of the dead wood as you can from the vine.
If the area is soft...dab some minwax wood hardener on the location.

Yes some part of the wood is damm soft... Im otw to get minwax wood right now... Thanks for yr suggestions.

There are several wood hardeners on the market.... any of the penetrating wood hardener‘s will work well. Varathane make a similar product to Minwax.... PC also makes one.

I have never used Water Putty as a filler so I would not be the best it ask.
