Hi,
I just got my first bonsai tree about three weeks ago so I am new to this. Has anyone used this fertilizer? If so did you have good results?
Also after the solution is mixed with a gallon of water, at what point should I remake it? I have only used a small portion of the water and was wondering if there is a certain amount of time the water needs to be used before it shouldn't be used anymore.

I have it, but I don't use it anymore. It's low in nitrogen. What kind of tree do you have ?

You can sit on the solution as long as you like. Any precipitation would already have occurred as it is a liquid to begin with.

@MrBeto It's a jade bonsai, I'm not sure how old it is I'm guessing fairly young. It's my profile picture.
Did you have negative results from using it?

I didn't see any growth after using it for a while. I use slow release fertilizer for my evergreens. Vigoro brand. Some folks here use miracle gro. Fertilize every 2 weeks in spring season.

That's one good thing about Dyna gro you can just mix it use little bit and leave the rest in a jug closed up until you need it again just give it a shake

Thank you

Get a balanced Fert 20-20-20 or 10-10-10 for examples. Not many nursey or department sell balanced ferts so find some on the web and make sure to read reviews. Also don't be fooled by anything that saids "Bonsai Fert" there's no such thing. Some guys use organic ferts why others use straight Mircal Grow.

Welcome to Crazy!

I think the law says...
The NPK value has to be on the package.

But does it have to be accurate?

Maybe that's just water?

I have used this, and now use Foliage Pro, (same maker, but a bit stronger and cheaper!) with good results. What I do is use it as a maintenance dosage every time I water. The idea is smaller doses, but more frequently will be just as good if not better for the tree, as it is available consistently. That works for me as I use an inorganic soil, and fertilizer tends to move out of the pot quickly. I also use a solid fert during the growing season in teabags on top of the soil.

Sounds exactly the same as i do !

Not worth the money. "Specialized" bonsai ferts include a premium in their pricing just because the have "bonsai" in it.

Plants don't give crap about where they get their NPK. A cheap all-purpose fertilizer like Miracle Grow, Peters or the like 20-20-20 is about all you need. The lower 7-9-5 here just means you're slowing development of your tree.

For the record... there is no difference between 10-10-10 fertilizer and 20-20-20 fertilizer, except that, by weight, the 20-20-20 fertilizer contains more NPK by volume.

You can apply twice as much 10-10-10 and it is exactly the same thing as 20-20-20. Obviously the concern with higher concentration fertilizers is that it is easier to burn your plants if they get walloped with a huge dose of fertilizer all at once. With liquids you can buy 20-20-20, dilute it 50%, and you have 10-10-10.

And just to comment on what @rockm said, you aren't "slowing" the development of your tree if you use a lower strength fertilizer, if (as in my example above) you use twice as much weaker fertilizer, or fertilize twice as frequently, for example. A tree or plant will absorb fertilizer until they have the maximum nutrients they can absorb. After that, more fertilizer is not only not helpful, it can actually be harmful. You can see this in application on your plants - a first round of fertilizer is often accompanied by a big flush of growth, but following applications (spaced two weeks apart) will maintain health and growth but won't necessarily trigger an ever greater flush of growth. That is because the tree is at saturation level and at its limit for absorbing nutrients.

That is the theory, at least. In practical application, there are a lot of variables.

Thank you everyone for all of the information!

Also if that one is ok, for this fertilizer is there a certain about of time it needs to be used up by or are all fertilizers pretty much once made they're good until you've used them up?
