Hi! I'm new here but not new when it comes to bonsai as I started when I was still in Asia maybe when I was around 14yo (and I am way older now). Anyway, I would like to specifically ask the people who have experiences with these two specific bonsai species if you guys managed to grow (bonsai or not) them successfully in SoCal (LA, Riverside, SD, and SB). If you guys personally took care of them in SoCal, please comment below. If not, please refrain from doing so as I am only going for the people who have a first hand experience with this. The two species I am looking at are the Colorado Blue Spruce and Japanese White Pine. I know they are not local here and theoretically will not grow here successfully but I just want to hear it from the folks who had or still have experiences with them. I am very aware of the cold requirements for these trees which CA won't be able to give. Summer heat may also pose a challenge. Again, just trying to get the inputs of the people who have a first hand experience with these trees in SoCal before I start experimenting. I feel like there are people here who experimented before in SoCal. I've read one from a lady in LA ages ago about her blue spruce but didn't see any updates after. Big Bear area might be suitable for these trees or the Sierra Nevada area but I'm not sure since I never tried it on those areas. Anyway, bear with me with this random post. I just want to hear it from people before I start experimenting. If you are from SoCal and have experience with these trees, please give me your insights as I want to learn from you first hand (different state with "same" climate won't cut it lol). The more details that you can give me the better. I'm a veteran and I love details! Thanks in advance!
* not looking for answers like "it will not work, it will die, not worth it". I need specifics like contributing factors that lead to this or that. Things that you did or didn't do or would have done if given a chance. This will give me more data on what I need to do differently when I start experimenting so I won't waste too much time and resources.
* not trying to come out hard. Just trying to explain things. Thanks!
