I plan on letting the newer “keepers” grow out , while pruning back stronger, thick branches to keep in check.Looks like you’re getting good growth. What’s your plan for management this year or are you letting it go wild?
Thanks!I’d keep the dead trunk. I would likely soft taper the top to look a little more damaged by wind, rain, freezing, wood pecking birds and overalls aging. I like the addition of the dead trunk in the composition.
I always find working on deadwood to be fun, interested and challenging. What I’m conscious of is the fact that whatever I remove won’t grow back. So I tend to take it off more slowly as time and nature would do. The slow pace ends up with a variety of subtle color changes…..just like in nature. Thanks!
Yeah, I like the dead trunk.
Especially since it’s connected. So I guess this is more like a 3 trunk tree.
- Or it could be seen as the remains of a deceased neighbor.
Either way, I think it adds something.
Good idea with working the top. Thanks.
I agree! Thanks for the reinforcement!Nice tree, I think it has a lot of potential.
I got take it off. It will be hard to get a downward angle based on the angle it emerges from the trunk.
