Any members here belong to the Blue Ridge Bonsai Society? They are having a meeting today I'd love to be able to attend, but I can't reach anyone to check for permission before I drop in :)

They are a little distant (two hours) for me to be a standing member, but today they are headed in my direction, and would love to join up with their event, if they had space.

How do you like the the east coast? I am a CA transplant. That’s what people call it lol. And I’m growing well for a transplant!

Love the East Coast! But then again, I grew up in the MidWest, so I was a CA transplant before I was an NC transplant :) For whatever reason, while we were in CA all my family kept moving further and further east. Once my son settled in Boston, it became a pretty easy decision to relocate... assuming I wanted to see my family :)

Most my family moved east as well. It’s not that hard of a decision once that happens. Lol all the trees and water is a plus

FWIW... I just heard from their President, and I have the dates wrong. Their event is NEXT weekend (the 10th). Glad I didn't jump in my car :)
I don’t know what Peggy told you but it is an RSVP event so make sure to let her know if you are brining anyone else or start to spread the word. Since our host is doing food he needs a head count up front. I plan to be there so let yourself be known.

Yes I saw that... when I sent Peggy a note I told her I promised to sit in the back of the room and not eat any food :)

It was my mistake on the dates. Brad and I were talking about something else, and he sent me some photos of the work that he is doing to get ready for your visit. He said "next weekend" and since we were talking on Thurs, I assumed he meant NOW and not the 10th. Unfortunately, if it is the 10th, I can no longer make the event :( I already have plans that Sunday. Very disappointing, but it is nice to establish connections with my bonsai brethren out west! (west NC, that is!) All I'm going to say is you are going to love his new setup! But I don't want to give away any spoilers :)

Ahh, too bad then. I decided to take a walk on the dark side and pre-ordered a couple bags of akadama from him so the visit will save me shipping costs. It’s almost a 2 hour drive from here unless he is located west of town so it is not a very convenient visit otherwise. We need a good bonsai operation here in Asheville, I have to order almost everything except pumice, haydite, and pine bark.

Brad is very competitive on his akadama pricing in my opinion. I buy from him, and I get it cheaper here than on the west coast. His new location off the 40 freeway is easily 30 minutes closer to Asheville than his old one. And it is much better in several other ways... which you will see when you get there. All I will say is "it's worth a two hour drive".

Wish I could be there... and then it would be worth a 2.5 hour drive :)

Ironically, the reason I won't be able to attend is because we have a VRBO that weekend... outside of Asheville :) My daughter goes to App State and it is their Fall break and we are going up into the mountains.
